Talk Like, Act Like Sticks

Talk Like, Act Like Sticks will get your students up, motivated and ready to participate in class. Students love it when they can be a little silly and pretend they are the next best actor/actress!

They are great for class participation, taking attendance, practicing reading, increasing language and vocabulary, reciting poems/chants and sharing their daily journal writings.

During attendance and calendar time, my students beg for a funny voice to use when answering my questions. There have been times when I couldn't think of a funny voice or action on the spot. So, these sticks have definitely come in handy!

Here are a few examples.

Before I let my students Talk Like/Act Like, we first discuss what their task might sound like or look like. For example, What might be happening to your body if it really was 110 degrees outside? How would you feel? Can you name some places in the United States that get that hot? How would you act if it was the opposite of110 degrees outside? There is so much language you can bring out with these sticks :)

Another example, Talk Like You're 95 years old. After my students "perform", I will continue to ask them more questions. "I noticed you were talking with a shaky voice and walking wobbly. Why would a 95 year old person, walk like that?"

There are 52 premade signs and 12 blanks ones so your students can have fun making up their own silly voices or actions.

5 Things You Didn't Know About This SLP

http://www.thespeechspace.com/2015/11/5-things-you-didnt-know-about-this-slp.html

The Speech Space is hosting a fun Linky Party & Giveaway! I'm having so much fun learning about the lives of other SLPs!

Here are 5 Things You Didn't Know About This SLP

1. This SILLY, LOVING girl right here is the reason I became a Speech-Language Pathologist! I absolutely love this gal! I'm so proud of the young lady she is becoming. She currently has a job working for the City Hall in her city!

2. I'm married to my high school sweetie!

3. I have 2 daughters that keep me entertained each and every day!

4. One perk about having a military parent is that I can say I've lived overseas! When I was a toddler, I lived in Cuba. I can't say I remember too much about Cuba :) When I was a sophomore in high school, I lived in Sicily, Italy. In the short 10 months that I lived there, I got to see some amazing places. I actually even climbed the active volcano, Mt. Etna!!!!

5. I'm totally OBSESSED with SNOWMEN!!! If I had it my way, my handsome, little snowmen decorations would stay up all year long!!

Make sure to go back to The Speech Space and enter her Giveaway!!

My students absolutely love the activities in "Do You Want to Build a Snowman?" The activities in this product target the following goals:

Making Requests
Increasing MLU
Answering WH Questions
Following Directions
Prepositions (over, under, in front, behind)
Fall Vocabulary
Describing
Grammar

Activity 1
Students will be able to request pieces that they need to build their own scarecrows using the visual phrase/sentence strips.

Once they are finished, have your students tell you where the scarecrows are using their phrase or sentence starters. *alternate activity-print in gray scale and have your students use daubers to answer the questions.

Turkey Talk Blog Hop

Can you believe they started playing Christmas songs on the radio the day after Halloween? What happened to waiting to play them until the day after Thanksgiving? I would love to just slow down time a bit, and enjoy the month of November. This is the month that we usually take the time to  reflect on the things that we are most thankful for. My SLP blogger friends and I really want you all to know how grateful we are for each and everyone of you. To show our appreciation, we collaborated and came up with a special Thanksgiving book companion to share with you all. We hope we can make therapy planning a little easier for you this month!

Are you ready to find out how to collect all 4 awesome freebies! Oh My GOBBLE....I just love anything that is free! How about you?

First, you'll need to visit Karen from The Pedi Speechie to grab the adorable book she created. It is called The Turkey That Wasn't Very Thankful! Then, you'll need to collect the 3 companion portions to go with this book. Erin from The Speech Attic has an amazing comprehension flip book and comprehension cards. Amy Beth from Speechasaurus has an awesome vocabulary packet. Lastly, I will be sharing my articulation activity sheets. Your students will have fun daubing and coloring while practicing their target sounds! You can grab them here.

We all really enjoyed collaborating and putting this together for you all. We just ask that you take the time to leave each one of us feedback on our TPT store page. Don't forget to SPREAD THE WORD! Tag us if you share on your social media sites. We would love to see how you and your students are enjoying this book companion. Most importantly, we all hope you have an AMAZING Thanksgiving!
